Deep Tissue Massage: North Beach

Sustained, focused pressure to reach the deeper muscle layers. For chronic pain patterns, long-standing tightness, and the tension stretching alone can't shift.

Deep tissue massage uses sustained, firm pressure to reach deeper layers of muscle and connective tissue. It's the modality of choice when superficial techniques aren't enough: for chronic pain patterns, deep-seated tension, and the muscles that need direct, focused work to release.

What Deep Tissue Massage Helps With

  • Chronic muscle tension that doesn't respond to stretching
  • Trigger points and localised "knots"
  • Long-standing postural patterns (rounded shoulders, tight hips, stiff thoracic spine)
  • Recovery from intense training blocks
  • Adhesions and scar tissue restrictions
  • Chronic pain patterns where superficial work hasn't produced lasting change

What to Expect

Deep tissue work is more intense than relaxation massage. Your Therapist will use slow, sustained pressure, and may use elbows, knuckles or forearms to apply force efficiently. Communication matters: pressure should be firm but not painful in a way you can't breathe through. Your Therapist will check in and adjust throughout the session.

It's common to feel sore for 24–48 hours after a deep tissue session, similar to post-training muscle soreness. Drinking plenty of water and gentle movement help.

Deep Tissue vs Remedial Massage

The two overlap significantly. Remedial is generally assessment-led and problem-focused, diagnosing what's going on and addressing it. Deep tissue is a pressure intensity, applied to whichever muscles need it. A skilled Therapist often blends both within a single session.
