For Patients & GPs
GP Referrals: North Beach Physio
You don't need a referral to see us. If you have one, we'll process it. For GPs: information on referring patients to WCHP North Beach and our communication processes.
For Patients: Do I Need a Referral?
No. Physiotherapy is a primary contact health profession in Australia. You can book and see us directly without a GP referral. That said, there are situations where a referral is helpful:
- Chronic Disease Management (CDM): eligible patients can receive up to 5 Medicare-rebated physio sessions per calendar year. Requires a GP-prepared plan.
- Department of Veterans' Affairs (DVA): Gold and White card holders may be eligible for DVA-funded physiotherapy via GP referral.
- Workers' compensation: work-related injuries typically require a referral from your treating doctor.
- Motor vehicle accident insurance (ICWA): most claims require initial GP assessment and referral.
- NDIS: depending on your plan, physiotherapy may be funded under capacity building supports.
If you have a referral or care plan, bring it to your first appointment and we'll process it on the day. If you're unsure whether you're eligible for any of the above, your GP is the best starting point.
