Neck Pain: North Beach Physiotherapy
Persistent, recurrent, or recently flared, neck pain is one of the most common reasons people see a physio in North Beach. We diagnose, treat, and give you the strategies to keep it gone.
Neck pain is one of the most common reasons people see a physio, and for many, it becomes a persistent background issue that limits work, driving, sleep, and sport. If you've been putting up with it, there's a good chance it won't resolve on its own.
What Causes Neck Pain?
Neck pain rarely comes from one thing. Common contributing factors include:
- Prolonged poor posture, particularly desk work and screen use
- Muscle weakness in the deep neck stabilisers
- Acute joint irritation or inflammation
- Muscle strains from sudden movement or awkward sleeping positions
- Disc irritation or nerve compression
- Whiplash following a car accident or collision sport
- Headaches referred from the upper cervical spine
How We Treat It
We start with a thorough assessment, understanding not just where it hurts, but why. From there:
Manual therapy: Joint mobilisation, soft tissue work, and dry needling to reduce pain and restore movement.
Exercise prescription: Targeted strengthening of the deep neck stabilisers and upper back muscles. Poor posture is usually a strength deficit, not just a habit.
Posture & ergonomic education: We show you what's driving the problem and give you a practical set of changes to make to your workstation and daily habits.
Return to full function: Whether that's getting back to sport, sleeping through the night, or making it through a work day without tension headaches, we set a clear goal and work toward it.
When Should You See a Physio?
Don't wait it out if you're experiencing:
- Pain or stiffness that's been present for more than 2–3 weeks
- Headaches that come with your neck pain
- Numbness, pins and needles, or referred pain into the arm
- Neck pain following an accident or collision
Earlier treatment may help you feel better sooner. If it's been there a while, that doesn't mean it's too late. Chronic neck pain can often be helped with the right approach.
